چکیده

At least one massive binary system containing an energetic pulsar, PSR B125963/SS2883, has been recently detected in the TeV γ-rays by the HESS telescopes. These γ-rays are likely produced by particles accelerated in the vicinity of the pulsar and/or at the pulsar wind shock, in comptonization of soft radiation from the massive star. However, the process of γ-ray production in such systems can be quite complicated due to the anisotropy of the radiation field, complex structure of the pulsar wind termination shock and possible absorption of produced γ-rays which might initiate leptonic cascades. In this paper we consider in detail all these effects. We calculate the γ-ray light curves and spectra for different geometries of the binary system PSR B1259-63/SS2883 and compare them with the TeV γ-ray observations. We conclude that the leptonic IC model, which takes into account the complex structure of the pulsar wind shock due to the aspherical wind of the massive star, can explain the details of the observed γ-ray light curve.

CANGAROO-II Observations of the PSR B1259−63/SS 2883 Binary System

The PSR B1259−63/SS 2883 binary system have been observed in the TeV energy region using the CANGAROO-II Cherenkov telescope and the results are reported. The nearby binary consists of a fast rotating radio pulsar and a Be star in a highly eccentric orbit. It has been pointed out that the relativistic pulsar wind and the dense mass outflow of the Be star may emit high energy gamma rays up to Te...

Suzaku Observations of Psr B1259−63: a New Manifestation of Relativistic Pulsar Wind

We observed PSR B1259−63, a young non-accreting pulsar orbiting around a Be star SS 2883, eight times with the Suzaku satellite from July to September 2007, to characterize the X-ray emission arising from the interaction between a pulsar relativistic wind and Be star outflows. The X-ray spectra showed a featureless continuum in 0.6–10 keV, modeled by a power law with a wide range of photon inde...

Shock geometry and inverse Compton emission from the wind of a binary pulsar

PSR B1259−63 is a 47ms radio pulsar with a high spin-down luminosity which is in a close, highly eccentric 3.5-year orbit about a bright stellar companion. The binary system may be a detectable source of hard γ-rays produced by inverse Compton scattering of photons from the B2e star SS2883 by electrons and positrons in the pulsar wind. The star provides an enormous density of optical photons in...

Multiwavelength monitoring and X-ray brightening of Be X-ray binary PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213 on its approach to periastron

The radio and gamma-ray pulsar PSR J2032+4127 was recently found to be in a decadeslong orbit with the Be star MT91 213, with the pulsar moving rapidly toward periastron. This binary shares many similar characteristics with the previously unique binary system PSR B1259−63/LS 2883. Here we describe radio, X-ray, and optical monitoring of PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213. Our extended orbital phase covera...

Probing Pulsar Winds Using Inverse Compton Scattering

We investigate the effects of inverse Compton scattering by electrons and positrons in the unshocked winds of rotationally-powered binary pulsars. This process can scatter low energy target photons to produce gamma rays with energies from MeV to TeV. The binary radio pulsars PSR B1259−63 and PSR J0045−73 are both in close eccentric orbits around bright main sequence stars which provide a huge d...
